I think we're all generally of the same mind here, but I'm still curious... what are your opinions on spoilers? Only a half hour after Doctor Who had finished yesterday someone had a massive spoiler on their status. I raged.

My questions are:

- Is it reasonable to rage at people who put spoilers in their status/twitter?

- If so, what is a reasonable time until spoilers are "acceptable"?

I am well aware of the opinion of "if you're that worried about spoilers, then why don't you watch it when it airs?" but then I counter with "sometimes you're unable to watch it when it airs." or in my case "I have an incredibly shit memory."

Thoughts?

I know a fair few people (including myself) who can't stand spoilers. To be honest, I guess it depends on the context. I don't mind hearing them when it's about a game I'll never play or show I'll never see, but if it is something you're working your way through and something you've been following for months/years and are excited about the outcome, I'd say that the person who spoils that is going to get a good flaming.

I'm pretty much with Teegi on this.

One guy spoiled the whole of the first Transformers film for me... THE DAY IT CAME OUT. He also did it a second time, but luckily I didn't actually care. I also had Burn After Reading spoiled for me accidently, which is a shame. I can forgive people if it's an accident, but if it's on twitter like "OMG DA DOCKTER IS REALLY A WOMAN AFTER AL DIS TIME!", then yeah, I get pretty pissed off.

And yes, I also had Doctor Who spoiled for me yesterday. :(

Well, there's the thing. When you watch something and you really enjoy it, and, I don't mean this to sound depressing or anything, it's probably going to be worded badly, but when watching that show is the one thing you've got to look forward to coming home to or something and then someone spoils it...

Personally I think spoilers are only a problem in a very few instances. Some films(etc) are worth two watches, one blind where you are suprised by the ending and one where you know the ending, and can pick up on al the little things that foreshadow the ending. Momento is a very good example of this. If you have Momento explained before you watch it, ithen your are basically robbed of that first watch. FF7, death note and cowboy bebop are good examples of things that have big 'spoiler' events that, don't really matter if spoiled because the execution of the twist is what I'm wanting to see in a worse case scenario, and best case, I want to experience eveything and the twist is just one aspect of it. Some of you may have heard me talk about School Days, which is basicly a set up and then a reveal. Even though most of the show is a set up for this reveal, and I watched it already knowing what was going to happen.

Nine times out of ten, spoilers don't matter. If you want proof, watch an episode of Columbo. 10 mins in, you will already know who the murder is, and that they will get caught. Even then you will still enjoy the episode.
There she goes. Human misery is a wonder to behold. Revel in her pain my dear boy!

Renewed reasons to avoid twitter  :P

And I haven't had a movie spoilt for me yet, because my friends are mostly in arms reach, and I'd sit on them  ;D But as for games, I had a spoil moment in Mass Effect 2, and it was worse, because my good frineds online were working me up to this character and hoping to see (or hear) my reaction when I found out. They were not impressed with the mook who gave it away...

Generally I'm careful with spoilers, I know me and Teegi have been playing the same game and it has taken allll my self control not to tell him something thats happened if on the off chance I've gotten further than him.

Spoilers for me only really concern me when it comes to games, but also only with games that I really care about and want to play.

I remember someone nearly spoiling Assassins creed 2 for me and I let them know how much I *reeeeally* did not want to know what they had to say. This is a bit of an exception as the AC games are something I am particularly passionate about.

and too right :D

Spoiler wise....if it's something I really want to know but haven't gotten to that part yet (for some reasons) I will rage a bit at them...if it's on Twitter right after it's been done then yeah....rage is allowed justly.
