This now working as a knockout. The loser is out, the winner moves on. Now the round stage should have brought us down to 16 competitors so it was a nice round number. I fluffed the counting though and worked it all out for 18, so rather than knocking out people who should have gone through, all the runners up have gone on to this stage, and there is a whole lot of byes into round 3. After that it's all smooth sailing and there should be no more byes.
